University ordinance

The rules, regulations, standing orders, ordinances etc governing the decorum, discipline, individual behaviour have been specified in the Hand Book of Information with a presumption that the students are aware of it and ignorance is not to be pleaded.

Dress Code

The University has a dress code for attending classes in the prescribed uniform of the university from Monday to Thursday of the week while on campus all uniforms including sports kits are provided by the institute at a nominal/subsidized cost.

Scholarship Policy 2019-2020

Preface:

Merit based scholarship is awarded as financial aid for a student to further his/her education based upon various criteria which reflect the values and purposes of the University. Scholarship money is not to be repaid. Scholarships are subject to renewal and eligibility criteria year to year.

Sardar Bhagwan Singh University reserves the right to modify and/or withdraw an award of scholarship if the credentials upon which the award was granted do not accurately and completely represent the scholastic record.

Merit Scholarship:

Merit scholarship of INR 2500/semester is awarded to students seeking admission in UG courses securing 65% and above and INR 5000/semester to students securing 75% and above in 10+2 examinations.

Sikh Minority:

5% free seats in all courses are reserved for Sikh Minority students. Student must submit an affidavit as per specimen provided by the university and further endorsed by the local Gurudwara Management Committee.

Ex Students:

A scholarship of INR2500/semester is awarded to all Ex-students of SBSPGI/SBS University securing 60% and above marks in qualifying exams for persuing P.G. courses in the University.

Sports Quota (Sikh minority and General)

25% to 100% scholarship is awarded to sports persons in 5% seats based on merit prepared in sport skills (District/State/University/Nationals) and academics.

Scholarship for session 2019-20 is available to sportspersons in Football, Cricket, Basketball and Table Tennis.

Rules for Scholarship

  • Candidates can avail only one the scholarships on offer.
  • If any candidate qualifies for more than one scholarship, the candidate may choose higher of the options in the year of admission.
  • However, students can seek award scholarships instituted by their respective State Governments and Central Governments as in force.
  • Continuance of the scholarship awarded to a student is further subject to review every academic year. A committee constituted by the Vice-Chancellor, headed by the Dean Academics, shall review the specific performance of awardees.
  • Students seeking scholarship shall submit their respective mark sheets, character certificate, etc. for verification, returnable after being inspected.

Merit and Awards

Merit awards

The Certificates of merit are awarded to students excelling in academics who secured 1st, 2nd, & 3rd positions respectively in their academic yearly and semester examination are awarded.

Certificate of appreciation

Students who secure 1st position in their class, excel in curricular activities, recipient of NCC B & C certificates in 'A' grades and students who win Silver and Bronze medals at University level in Sports/Athletics/ Cultural/Debate are awarded Certificate of Appreciation.

Certificate of excellence

Student/s securing the highest marks (University topper) in University level in his / her class and student/s winning Gold medal in University level sports/athletics or represented University in National level are awarded Certificate of Excellence.

Sports awards

University appreciates the participation of the students in various extra curricular activities and confer the following prizes.


Gold, Silver and Bronze medals are given for individuals in Athletic meet as well as for team events. Trophies are awarded for each team event. Trophies are also awarded for Inter house team events for Cultural competitions, Music, Dance and Dramatics. Overall running trophy is awarded to the winning House in every Academic Session.

Student members of various extracurricular activities committees and NCC are also given commendation certificates / memento in certain cases cash prize of Rs.2000/-.

Student Charter

The student charter contains details of student policies and general information. All students are provided with a copy of same on their joining the University.

Advisors

Students are divided into different groups according to the availability of the teacher and students of a particular course / department. The primary aim of forming groups is to have more interaction between teachers and students which helps in ascertaining the problems of students and solution thereof. Groups are formed in the department of teachers and students in lottery / random allotment basis. If some students have some personal problems, the teacher may hear him / her separately and discuss the matter with HOD, if required.

Teaching Methodology

University concurrently adopts the latest technology / methodology in teaching and a pragmatic approach is shown in providing solution to individual problems of the students. Modern visuals aids and usage of internet is highly encouraged.

Teaching schedule

Prior to commencement of academic session the Head of Department in consultation with departmental faculty prepare the annual teaching schedule in the form of Time Table. Due care and diligence, are given to complete the schedule within the stipulated days as per the norms of the UGC / AICTE. The individual Faculty submits a monthly report to the Dean academics of the University for due performance of the schedule allotted.

Teaching / practical schedule

Similarly the schedule of practical classes is prepared and the accountability of conduction of practical classes is fixed. The individual Faculty submits a monthly report to the Dean Academics of the University for due performance of the schedule allotted.

Houses

Students are divided into four different houses for various competitive activities. The Houses are named after the Sahibjadas (Sons) of Sh. Guru Govind Singh.

Class Committee

The class committee of each class is constituted to redress problems faced by students. The class committee meeting is convened as per the Academic Calendar regularly by the Dean Academics.

The composition of the class committee is :
HOD of the Department
Two student toppers (1st and 2nd position)
Two class representatives selected by the student to be replaced in the next class committee meeting.

Ragging

UGC & AICTE has laid down provisions for curbing Ragging and in consonance to the provisions any student found indulging in any act of ragging, he/she will be suspended from the University and a FIR will be lodged with the police apart from serious punitive action to be taken against the offender / offenders.

Attendance and Leave Rules

Students will have to fulfill a mandatory attendance requirement of 75% in each subject failing which; he / she will not be allowed to appear in University / Sessional Examination.

Further it is compulsory for all the students to attend the following functions.

Sports

One of the significant aims of sports is to instill among the students the cherished values of courage and dash, optimism and hope, action and enthusiasm and there is no better medium than sports to inculcate these values in the students and to prepare them - mentally and physically - for the challenges ahead in life.

We at SBS University believe that "a healthy mind resides in a healthy body". It is our belief that sport activities are essential for the overall development of any student. We motivate our students to participate in different games and sports activities throughout the year. These activities inculcate the healthy habits of sportsmanship and competitiveness among the students and help them to release their stress and learn the spirit of freedom, togetherness, discipline, leadership and self-control.

There is a vast array of sports & games for students to participate in, and facilities for even more are under development. All facilities, including professionally qualified sports teachers & modern amenities catering to various sports & games are provided to students. The 4 acre sports field is a haven for outdoor sports: Volleyball / Basketball / Cricket / Soccer (verify) / Hockey / Baseball, besides facility for Indoor Games like Table tennis / Badminton / Chess / Carom / Gymnasium is available in Hostels.

Annual athletic meet

The University with a notion grooming students in all fields viz: Academics, Extra Curricular activities organizes various activities Athletic Meet and other Sports every year. All sports Cricket, Football, Badminton, Basketball, Volleyball etc Inter house Tournaments are organized every year. The sports calendar completes on the staging of Annual Athletic meet held every year in February. The Best Athlete - Male and female are nominated as Flag bearers of the succeeding Annual Athletic Meet which carries cash prizes too.
