
Dr. S. K. Karn received an M.Sc. and Ph.D. degree in Biotechnology at Thapar University, Patiala, and completed Post-doctorate at the Chinese Academy of Science, Beijing, China. Dr. Karn has about 15 years of teaching and research experience. Dr. Karn has been awarded DBT-JRF (2005), International Young Scientist Award (2011) and Visiting Researcher Award (2013) through the Chinese Academy of Science (CAS) and the National Natural Science Foundation (NFSC) of China. In the year (2016) he was awarded for Distinguish Scientist by Presidential International Fellowship Initiative (PIFI initiative) by CAS Beijing, China. Recently he also recognised as the top 1% peer reviewer in Microbiology and editorial pursuit internationally by Clarivate Analytics, USA. Dr. Karn has published more than 95 research papers and 3 edited books in leading International Journals and publishers. He attended and presented more than 45 International and National Conferences and deposited more than 100 different gene sequences to GeneBank-NCBI and also submitted 15 industrially important microorganisms to National Collection of Industrial Microorganisms (NCIM, NCL, Pune, India) and 5 at China General Microbiology Culture Collection Centre (CGMCC, Beijing, China). Dr. Karn successfully investigated 3 different research projects funded by National Natural Science Foundation (NFSC) of China. Dr. Karn understands teaching is one of the greatest challenges and most rewarding aspects. He ventures to inspire students with his enthusiasm for the subjects, cultivate critical-thinking and decision-making for innovative approaches. He taught various courses and guided M. Tech, B. Tech (Biotechnology), M.Sc. and PhD students for their research work. Currently Dr. Karn has two research projects in running one from Xcel Life Science California, USA and other from USERC, Dehradun, Govt. of Uttarakhand. Dr. Karn has broad research interest in Biofilm Engineering; Environmental Genomics and Proteomics; Enzyme and Energy; Bioremediation; Extremophiles and related area.
